Key Concepts & Maxims of Wing Chun (Part 1) by Sifu David Peterson

"Once movement and angles come into the equation, it becomes necessary to consider another two aspects of the Centreline concept, namely that there is an original Centreline (some call it the Motherline), and there is a moving/shifting Centreline. The former refers to the fact that no matter how you are positioned with reference to your opponent, the shortest line between you both is your original Centreline. The moment the opponent launches an attack directly at you, your body angles will be altered in such a way that any counter-attack that you launch MUST follow the original Centreline in order to be able to strike them effectively."
